Short Term Load Forecasting using Stochastic and Self-Organizing Maps
S. Farook and NMG Kumar
Abstract
This paper concerns with forecasting short-term electricity load using self-organizing maps. Short term load forecasting has become more important for power producers and consumers to plan their resources and utilities strategically. Misjudgment of load may results in loss of revenue for both consumer and power produces. Knowing the load behavior in advance is an important aspect for power system planning, economic and reliable operation. In this paper, Short Term Load Forecasting (STLF) was carried out using time series, stochastic method (ARIMA) and Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) technique to predict the future demand, where the historical demand and weather factors as inputs. These developed methods give load forecasting for 24 hours in advance. The proposed SOM method is implemented in MATLAB. The performance of the model has been tested with practical data from Ercot load, considering six days historical data with hourly resolution. The Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) for hourly load demand forecasting is observed as 1.5% where as it is 3% and 6.5% with time series and Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA). This comparison clearly shows the effectiveness of the SOM model for STLF.

S. Mangaiarkarasi, K. Lavanya Latha
Abstract
This study is an attempt to examine the influential relationship between discriminatory working experience and occupational Stress among women police in Tamil Nadu as well as moderating role of mode of entry in to the police department such as Direct recruitment or Compassionate ground between the relationship of discriminatory working experience and occupational stress. A survey method had been adopted in this study among women police from Tamil Nadu. A well structured questionnaire had been issued to 400 employees. The authors got 368 valid responses after the process of data cleaning for further data analysis and interpretation. Cronbach’s alpha score was calculated to measure the reliability of the scale. The alpha value showed higher internal consistency among the items listed in the measures. The SPSS, AMOS and Stat tool Package were used to analyse the gathered data. Structural Equation Modelling was used to analyse the relationships. This study clearly revealed that discriminatory working experience had significant impact on occupational stress among women police from Tamil Nadu and mode of entry was significantly playing the moderating role on the influential relationship between discriminatory working experience and occupational stress.

With the introduction of international norms for income recognition, asset classification and provisioning in the banking sector, managing NPAs has emerged as one of the major challenges facing Indian banks .Non-performing assets constitute a major portfolio of the Banks portfolio and hence are an inevitable burden on the banking industry. NPAs adversely affect the profitability, liquidity and solvency of the banks. This paper analyses the position and trend of NPAs in the Indian Banking scenario and the impact of macroeconomic variables on the Non Performing Assets over the years. The paper also analyses the various recovery channels that the bank has opted in the past. The data has been analysed using Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient, t- test, F-test, Regression analysis and trend analysis. Microsoft Excel’s Data Analysis Tool Pack has been used for the analysis. Through this study we infer that private banks and foreign banks have advantages in terms of their efficiencies in better credit management in containing the NPAs which indicates that bank privatization can lead to better management of default risk.

Ahmed Hussain, Debansu Das
Abstract
The purpose of the study was to measure and analyse the extent of human resource information in corporate annual reports in India. For this purpose annual reports of 50 companies for year 2015-16 were examined. 50 sample companies were selected following simple random sampling from top 500 companies listed on Indian Stock Exchanges. Based on a disclosure checklist of 76 human resource information items and using an unweighted disclosure index, the study measures the extent of human resource disclosure both at the aggregate level as well as in respect of eight categories of human resource information. The result shows that the extent of overall human resource disclosures varies from 30% to 89%. Minimum disclosure score of 30% is very poor. But the maximum disclosure score of 89% is fairly high. However, it reveals that none of the sample companies has disclosed 100% information items of our disclosure checklist. Mean disclosure score of 54.64% indicates an inadequate average level of disclosure. The study reveals a wide variation in the extent of overall disclosure with range and standard deviation being 59% and 11.58% respectively. So far as disclosure in respect of different human resource information is concerned, mean disclosure score is the highest (63%) for ‘Information related to Human Resource Policy’ followed by disclosure score (62%) for ‘Financial Information on Human Resource’ and (56%) for ‘General Information about Human Resource’. The lowest mean disclosure score is 22% for ‘Occupational Hazards, Health and Safety Issues’. Maximum level of disclosure under different categories of human resource information varies from 80% to 100% while minimum level of disclosure under different categories varies from 0% to 30%. On analyses of research findings, the paper concludes that there exists scope for improvement of human resource reporting by Indian companies.
